Forestry mulching · Blue Hill, Maine

Overgrown to
open ground.

We clear brush, saplings and small trees with a forestry mulcher that cuts, grinds and spreads everything in one pass, right where it stands. You get no burn piles and no trucks hauling debris off your land, and the trees you want to keep stay standing.

Keep the trees you want

Most clearing on the peninsula isn't about knocking everything flat. It's opening up a house site, a view or a walking path while keeping the good pines, spruce and hardwoods.

Before we start, we walk the land with you and flag the trees that stay. Then the mulcher works the brush and understory around them, so you're left with clean ground under a healthy stand instead of a bare lot.

What we clear

Most jobs fall into one of these. If yours doesn't, ask anyway.

  • 01

    House lots and building sites

Open up a wooded lot so your builder, surveyor or excavator can get to work.

  • 02

Driveways, camp roads and woods roads

Cut a new path or reopen an old one that the alders and young spruce have closed in.

  • 03

    Fields and pasture reclamation

Take back grown-in fields from brush and young trees so they can be mowed or grazed again.

  • 04

    Trails

Clear walking, ATV and snowmobile trails and keep them open year after year.

  • 05

    Views and understory thinning

Clear out the brush under a stand to open a view or let light in, without clearcutting.

  • 06

    Fence lines, boundaries and invasives

Clean up property lines and knock back buckthorn, bittersweet and other invasives.

How it works

One machine and one pass. The ground is left covered, not torn up.

1

We walk the land with you

We flag what stays and talk through what goes, along with access, wet spots and anything buried.

2

The mulcher does the clearing

A spinning drum of carbide teeth grinds standing brush and trees into chips on the spot.

3

The mulch stays put

A layer of chips is left on the ground. It holds the soil, keeps erosion down and breaks down over time.

Why mulch instead of cut and haul

The usual way to clear land takes a crew, several machines and a lot of trucking. Here's how the two compare.

Forestry mulchingCut, pile and haul
DebrisGround up and left as mulchPiled, then burned or trucked away
EquipmentOne machineSaws, skidder or excavator, trucks
SoilCovered and protected by the mulchOften left bare and rutted
Trees you keepWorked around, one by oneEasily damaged by skidding and piling
Burn permitNot neededNeeded if piles are burned

When it isn't the right tool: mulching grinds stumps down to about ground level but leaves the roots. If you need stumps and roots fully removed for a foundation, septic or a pond, you'll also need an excavator. We'll tell you up front.
